When you wish upon a Star
When you wish upon a Star is a small Nottingham based Charity dedicated to granting the Wishes of children across the UK, all of whom have life threatening illnesses. All children have Wishes, but for these children and their families that Wish is so much more precious as the provide the opportunity for the children to forget about their illnesses to simply be a child for the experience.
Wishes which are often varied and far reaching. For some it is a trip to Disneyland in Florida or Paris, for others it is a chance to get up close to a favourite pop star or sporting hero. Some children Wish to be a princess or soldier for the day, whilst others would like toys or a computer to catch up on their schoolwork or keep in touch with friends.
Each Christmas we take hundreds children on a magical trip of a lifetime to meet Father Christmas in Lapland. It is a day trip as many of the children come directly from hospital and it really is a trip that money could not buy as the day is only possible due to the fantastic team of doctors and paramedics that accompany us each year. No-one could fail to be moved as we watch the children despite their illness, just for one day put aside their pain and suffering in the excitement of playing in the snow and meeting Father Christmas.
